Hello. I'm -as you will shortly find out-a pretty confused guy. The main problem is, Ive had some much advice, from so many people, Im not to sure what to do, but enough of the intro and onto the question.
Here are the main points to my question:
I want to become a database developer.
I have been to university and studied databases.I have a good understanding of relational database theory and SQL.
I have some programming experience with VB .NET (building the front end for MS access databases), but nothing with web scripts.
I will be looking for jobs in the UK
The main problem/s I have are:
Should I focus on learning about SQL Server with asp .net (C#) or PHP (Ive got the free express editions ready to use).Nice environment (Visual web dev), Only problem with this option is your tied into using MS products and IIS.
Should I go the MySql with PHP route or possibly python. Open source and popular because of it. Doesnt tend to be widley used by large organisations?
Should I learn Oracle with PHP or python. Oracle is for large scale operations to my knowledge, so maybe not such a good choice for a junior?
On a side note Python does interest me but seems less popular than PHP or ASP.
In the near future Im looking into doing a online database (personal project) for practice/reference/fun etc. I also want to try an make myself as attractive an employment prospect as possible. Ideally I would propably learn asp .net and PHP but I need something to focus on intially. I also need something thats going to give me a decent chance of being hired as a junior database developer in a company.
So in refernece to the main question, What combination of the above should I do? Or do you guys have any better suggestions?
When answering, remember Im trying to get employement from this, so focus on that point.
Finally, thank you for any help!
