MySQL Query Limit Exceeded?

Hi guys,

I have a couple web hosts, and it seems these couple days the ones that have some sort of php-software running in the back are extremely slow, and sometimes gives me internal server error messages.

I've updated them from php4 to php5. Slightly better in some cases, but still very slow.

I contacted my web host's technical support and they said its because ive exceeded my query limit (which was 75k), and he recommends me to upgrade to 150k limit or something for extra $20 per month - which is crazy talk.

So what could be causing this problem? I still think its the server side because ive had high-res images on my website for years and rarely have this problem. And - it cant possibly happen to all my websites at the same time...

Thanks everyone!

Matt

75k is a lot of querys, But can be eaten up by some kind of loop.

Tbh, Id just change hosting providers to someone with unlimited , or get cheap dedicated vps server or something.

Yes, but im not sure if it really is query problem. I dont think it could be such a coincidence that all my sites have so many queries at the same time.

Similarly, what causes such large amount of queries? traffic? visitors?

If i do get dedicated VPS, first it costs a lot of money, but more importantly, im unfamiliar with moving databases over... my main trouble.

When you say all of your websites, do you mean that you're using the same script on multiple websites, spread amongst multiple hosts? If that's the case, and they're all receiving problems it can be one of two scenario's:

1) All your websites are receiving an increase in traffic, and are therefore forcing your scripts to work harder and faster to serve those clients.

2) You've made an edit to the scripts (administered it globally to all websites), and it's causing a loop or some kind of extensive work that would otherwise not be required.

Usually customers reach their max query limit from the latter.

Hi andrei155, thanks for your reply!

It seems i've done neither. So my guess is its the host's problem. They've contacted me later today telling me there were some slight issues with the back end.

Thanks andrei for the information, good to know! I almost thought it was my problem...

If you continue experiencing problems, and are certain that it's not a problem on your end (haven't changed the script, and aren't receiving a sudden influx of visitors), then you should tell the host to check over their my.cnf file (MySQL configuration file), as they've obviously changed something that doesn't quite click.

Try checking over you logs. More visitors usually accounts to more resource usage.

hi andrei155,

Thanks for your help! I've contacted them again and this is what they said:
"The maximum number of database queries per user is 75,000/hr. When information is accessed from the gallery, the query per user is exceeding the limit. You have to optimize the script to reduce the database connection. You can contact any web developer for script optimization. The MySQL query limit will get refreshed every hour."

Do i really need to do that? the optimization i mean.

Also, i've told them about the mySQL config file thing, so lets see how they reply back.

Thanks for all your help andrei155, i really appreciate it.

Geezus!
75,000/hr and your maxing that?

Mine only does 23k per hour and my system is quite intensive..

Id REALLLLLY do some debugging on your scripts.
Figure out if something is doing more than it should do.. ( or if you can make the select , update etc more streamlined. )

I need to do this to my site but im not gonna bother till it hits 200kPh
