I have never built a database before and I am building a website selling car and truck accessories and would like to allow customers to find the product they want, and then once on the product page, have drop down menus where they can select their make, model and year vehicle to check for fitment much like this page: http://www.autoanything.com/floor-mats/64A2002A0A0.aspx

My simplehelix server has mysql and php already, so where do I even begin?

Can someone walk me through setting up a few of these?

naviracer23, this is way to general of a problem. What you are asking could be used to publish a book. Between mySQL, php and HTML there are all sorts of directions and interface methods that need to be addressed.

As a suggestion, ask very pointed questions to small problems and take baby steps until you have your website.

Hello. I'm sorry if this is not the right section for my post. But I am just asking for help. Does anyone have their resources for php and mysql? I just want to learn php and mysql but can't find a good ebook or tutorial for this.

Here is a good online resource

http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_display_visibility.asp

If you want a good book, that walks your through everything from setting up a db to interfacing with it.

Here are some suggestion for you:
1 if you indeed do not know how to create a new database, you can inquire someone who is familiar with that, even you can contact the web hosting customer, they may give you some help.
2 you would not compile the coding yourself ,it is a work with respect to programmers.Download the free contend manage system(CMS),then upload it to your hosting.
3 manage the content of your website at the background of the CMS directly ,you will not worry about the coding.
4 the last but not the least important is,remember to backup your databases.

A good way to start making a database is to draw out the entire layout of the database. Draw every table and every field within that table. Then draw all of the relationships. Once you have all of that done, the rest is pretty easy. A good way to decide what to put into a table is to decide if there are a either a finite number of responses to a givin field, ex. State or Country, or will the same answer be repeated many times, ex. For a blog, it would be better to have all of the usernames in a table with an id number and then for each post only store the id number than to store the name for each post.
