I have a massive Excel data sheet, that I need to import into SQL stuido (MSSQL).

Problem is I already have some of the data (about 10k records) in there. How do I go about adding the data, while keeping out redudant data?

And I also am curious as to how to run the queries, to insert there unique IDs into other tables and populate them, then continue on to the next record?

I recently did something like this as well. I read around on the internet and found you can do it but for the amount I was doing it would take me a lot longer to figure out the code then do some brute force methods.

I used the functions with MySQL to import the data, then dump the data out as a formate dql backup statement. It puts everything in a nice easy layout when you open the file in excel. You can then removed the duplicate lines from the excel sheet and the just past the resulting sql statement back into mysql and all is good. Bit confusing but hopefully you got the jist.

+1 for DTS - it's the most powerful import/export tool you'll find and it's built in to SQL Server, so free with your license (if you have one).

You can use the SQL Server Data Transformation Services (DTS) Import Wizard or the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard to import Excel data into SQL Server tables. When you are stepping through the wizard and selecting the Excel source tables, remember that Excel object names that are appended with a dollar sign ($) represent worksheets (for example, Sheet1$), and that plain object names without the dollar sign represent Excel named ranges.

Yup, DTS is the way to go. I had to do this recently (though I was converting from MSSQL -> CSV). It saved my life.
