I am designing a website for a client, which is going well. I thought I would have time to improve and learn on my PHP, to finish the database and PHP sides of it.

Basically, my client is looking for:

a log in registration, which visitors either pay or refer 5 peoplem before they are allowed to enter.

a searchable website, which is actually restricted to some of his products.

a searchable area, for members, where perhaps using combo boxes, select varies areas, and then the search results in a textbox, which are clickable to move into a printable area...

Hope that is not too confusing.

start off by creating members and products tables

determine what information is required/optional for the interface and create your fields accordingly.

keep in mind you will have a "referred_by" and "paid_member" type fields for each account. when the user logs in, first check to see if they are paid. if not, check to see how many users were referred by them. if both fail, kick them down to an error/instructions page telling them why they cannot log in.

if I read your post correctly, that should cover the basics.
