Designing a site is no problem, but I really struggle on doing databases, how do I set one up, get it to display the users info, store their password. Its not for just staff asd that would be easy to just give them a password. Its for people to sign up and then it remember their password user name e.t.c.

Thanks in advance.

Databases aren't the only issue here, having a scripting langauge like Perl or PHP that can interact with the database and display output to the user through the web browser is also something that you'll need to look into. I recommend you look into some PHP/MySQL (or Perl/MySQL) tutorials on the internet, or find yourself a knowledgeable person with experience if this is for more large scale applications.

Cagedweb, such a broad discussion is difficult to teach someone from scratch in a forum. I would suggest you picking up a book on PHP/MySQL from your favorite bookstore and taking the walk-through tutorials and explore their examples. It is not particularly difficult, but it takes some time in front of the keyboard to get the experience.

Certainly that is another way to go. Many people learn more effectively from books rather than from content on a screen (that's me), so that was my suggestion. Books also tend to be better organized and more tailored for beginners whereas online content is often organized more as a reference.

Regardless, there is a wealth of information out there -- in whatever form you prefer.

Sorry for the lateness of my reply - I just came across this thread.

In my experience the information on the internet is also a lot harder to follow because most of the tutorials I found don't tell you what version of the software they are using - thus if you are using a different version only serves to confuse when you are trying to learn.

I also find it easier to refer to a book when looking for a specific reference rather than trying flip back and forth between programs.

Therefore - I'm just backing up Kyrnt's advice on a book
