if you are running a wordpress blog and switch hosts is there a way to get the info from one database to the other host database?

I can't remember much about wordpress, but if it's as good as it should be, there should be a "backup database" option somewhere in the admin section. if there is, it should create a nice SQL file that you can run through phpmyadmin in your new database

Also, there should be a way through phpmyadmin itself to backup a database. I am not 100% sure on that though.

Yes, you can backup the database using phpmyadmin or mysqldump. Then just restore it at your new host.

parahost is right. It doesn't matter about the application. If the data is stored in a database, it can be moved around pretty easily using one of the above mentioned tools.

Wordpress doesn't have a built in backup system, but you can use phpmyadmin.

Just be sure to check the mysql versions of both servers. If the new server is running an older version of mysql, you'll have to export the old (current) database in an older version compatible format. Most hosts/phpmyadmin has a compatibility dropdown menu from the sql export screen.
