Hi Guys

Hv an existing site and i wonder how to backup the database from my server.

Currently am using this FTP software called CORE and its only allowing me to copy the php scripts tht is running the site.

I need the database installed on my local host so tht i can do some editing which my designer is not very helpful. I do know how to log-in to cpanel and access the mysql.

Thanks in advanced for any help offered.

Hi,

If you go to phpMyAdmin, it's quite easy.

To the left, you select your data base name. Then click on "Export" (top).

Then click on "Select all". Then you check the verification box "Sent" and then click on "Continue".

In case you can't do it, just ask your hosting provider for assistance.

Regards,

I've tried doing this on my account, but most of the time it just throws a "Page cannot be displayed message". Is this a problem on my server or what?

What does it do the rest of the time? If you're getting 404 erros, then ya, its probably a helpticket issue with your webhost.

Seems to be...

Did you contact your current hosting provider about this?

In cPanel you should have a 'Backup' icon where you can backup your full site, just the files or just the database. Take a look in there if phpMyAdmin isn't working for you.

I currently run Apache2Triad 1.5.3: phpMyAdmin 2.6.3-pl1 / MySQL 4.1.14 / PHP 5.0.4 / Apache 2.0.54

But for some reason import is missing from phpMyAdmin, are there any other ways to import *.sql dbs?

You can always import them from the command line, or use mysqlimport or use a PHP script to populate your data base, etc.

I recommend you to read MySQL documentation.
