Hello,

I had gotten a free ppc search engine script from hotscripts.com, for the install instructions the only step i was unable to do was to CHMODD recursively. As i dont know what this means ive had the script for 3 months and forgot about it, as i found other things to do.

I was wondering if anyone could help me or had experience in "CHMODD recursively" and could explain it at all so a laman like me could understand it.

I would really appreciate any help what so ever.

Thanks in advance.

Well I never heard of it before so I went to Google

At first reading it looks like the chmod of the directory passes down to the files in the directory. That is based on a quick read of the page above.

That being said I still can't tell you how to do it using ftp. You can work around it by simpley making sure that all the files in the directory are chmoded the same as the directory.

There was a lot of links on the Google search. Looks like you could read for days. Personally I would use the work around method above.

Which script was it?

Hey Colby,

Thanks for the reply. The script is SmartPPC Lite.

Here is the actual line in the instructions i was having a problem with:

8. chmod(recursively) 777 folder config (example: chmod -R 777 config)

There is alot of stuff on google but i couldnt really find my answer, kinda just confused

I dont know how to take the actual steps to do it. I use cpanel control panel. I think i tried what you said when i originally went to install it but it gave me errors in the script.

Thanks for your help i appreciate it.

Upload the files. Open cPanel. Use file manager to chmod (called permissions in cPanel) set the config folder and all files in the config folder to 777. That is read, write and execute for all users. This allows the script to write the necessary config files.

Just in case you need more detail. When you have file manager open and click on a folder or file name the chance to set permission is one of the option ofn the rught side of the screen.

You can play at this demo site before you do your own.

-R flag tells chmod to recursively change the permissions of all sub-dirs and files to the chmod value when you kick off.

So chmod -R 022 ~ would (apart from locking you out) change all the file and directory permissions under your directory.

You should be able to call system (chmod -R 022 ~) if you have no ssh or even exec should run it.
