I am a newbie and need some advise. What I want to build is a webside which shows a set of selections criteria (dropdown menue and value fields) and after a push to a GO button, a list of data matching the selection criteria shall be listed below the selection. If too many data meet the criteria, a "paging" function shall be shown at the bottom for navigation.

I think it is easy to build, as long as the database is "static" but how to do it in case the database is a file list in a specific directory on the same server or in a separate one?

Thanks for an advise what software is best suitable for my task.

There are a lot of things you need to figure out.

You need to know what language you are going to write this page in.
If you already have a server, it will be determined by that. If you are using windows server then asp or asp.net would be your option. If you are using Linux or whatever, then php would be the option. Figure what language your going to code this in and get back to us in the appropriate forum.
