I created my first database the other day to hold my Wordpress data, so it was my first installation of any kind on a server... anyways when i edit one of the config.php files that verifies the user name and password im just typing in plain text out my password, which then sits in a not too deeply nested file in my server... so I just want someone to tell me this is ok and there is no danger

PHP files are processed by the server so any values in there will never be seen outside the server, only people with access to the server directly or via FTP will see the PHP source code.
The only proviso to this, is in the remote chance that the server config is change and .php become seen as HTML or plain text, and someone works out the exact path and name for the file.
