merging databases with different fields

Hi all,

Question on merging two distinct dbs:

I have one db from website registrants that contains some additional fields from a CRM db and have been asked to merge the two. There will be some crossover between records in both dbs, meaning that users in the Site Registrants DB may also be in the CRM db.

My question is, would it be a no-no from a data integrity point of view to keep all non-empty fields from the older record of the two in the event of a duplicate record?

Then i would have newer information mixed with older. Is there any reason to advise against this?

Thanks.

I'm not a database GURU though I do work with MySQL as my full time job and ran a website for the past 4 years with a database of more than 125,000 rows and I do not see a problem with filling the data where users already exist and create new where it does not. I assume you have data timestamps in there, so if you need to sort anything later, you can.. no big deal

I'd go for it.
