you can use php's built in mysql functions. ms access plays absolutely no role in it whatsoever.

Yes, MS Access can be used to access data from a MySQL server, provided the ODBC drivers for MYSQL are installed on the machine Access is running on.

access can be used as well as a host of other things but he's asking what IS used when creating a db with php and mysql and logically the answer is php.

I you're already useing php and mysql it make s no sense to try and use access since your application will be very limited and arguably slower.
