i have a 5meg database i'm trying to import into mysql 5 via phpmyadmin on my home server.

But, it keeps timing out.

I wondered if bigdump would help however the link to the download seem to be experiencing difficulties.

dos anyone have a copy they could send me.

If you have shell access you could always upload the file to your server and import the dump file from the command line.

i have access to everything as its' my own home web server it's on, but that doesn't mean i know what i am doing :lol:

I am just duplicating a forum ii have on an external server to keep as a backup that's why i want to do this. (FYI)

mysql -u USER -p DBNAME < dump.sql

Make sure that you are either in the folder where dump.sql exists or that you put a more complete path to dump.sql where neccesary.

If its a matter of connecting via SSH search google for a program called Putty.

do i need putty if i can just sit at the server and access it directly ? It's a pc sitting in the corner of this room.

Not unless you want to access if via your PC. Otherwise, just login to your server at the terminal and issue the above command.

i went into the command prompt on the server and navigated to the folder that contains mysql and ran the above (i put the database in there first)it then asks for a password ok and then nothing. no error message or anything so i assumed it was doing something but that was 45 mins ago.

something not right obviously. the database is only 5 meg so i don't know whats wrong.

Have you checked via phpmyadmin whether the dump file actually went into place?

there are no tables or data in the database if that's what you mean

Hmm....Well, I'm more than a little stumped. Try logging into mysql first as a separate action before doing the dump.
