Need script better than phpmyadmin

I would like to find a script that can query a mysql DB and show the tables and produce a report of what is in there. If I could view each record in a more friendly manner than phpmyadmin that would be great. If it has utility options for management that would be even better.

I can view the dump and write a script for each one but I am looking for a more automated solution.

I can't even figure out the search term for SE to try and find this.

Of course free is always best, but I will pay a moderate price for a quality product.

Script can be server side or local machine under windows.

Chris that looks real interesting.

This runs on local machine? To a web based DB? Or on local machine?

I will go back and try to read some more.

Thanks for the reply.

At another forum I got a suggestion to try http://www.turboajax.com/products/turbodbadmin/

This runs on the server or your local machine if you have server setup on it.

My first impression is pretty positive. It did what I wanted. It read the database with me providing nothing but a usename and password. Then it allowed me to read each record. It makes phpmyadmin look like win 3.1 software.

Chris if you read this post, I would love to know what you think of this product.

I use HeidiSQL a lot on my local machine and find it a lot more user-friendly than PHPMyAdmin. I have never used it to connect to a web-based DB but from what I can tell during setting up connections it should be possible.

I'll give the script a try out certainly.

Provided you have port 3306 open through the server firewall Heidi will connect to remote servers just as easily as it will to a server running on localhost.

I have several profiles/configurations set up so I can connect to different client databases that are set on the server.

Heidi is also set up on one of the Windows boxes in the providers datacentre, so we can connect on TS and admin MySql which is running on a linux box.

Heidi looks far more robust than what I posted above. I will sure give it a try. It may be a while before I get around to it.

We use SQLYog in work. My collegue tried HeidiSQL, but prefered the Yog at the end of it all. Hands down, one of the best SQL GUI's out there. Heidi is a very good contender though!
We used both of these on web based MySQL servers on a daily basis. Depending on the nature of the query, and how much data it had to bring back, and the physical speed of your connection to the SQL server, depends on how long a query takes. Though smaller queries are neither here nor there really.

That, and SQLYog inparticular has an option to do instant (or scheduled) backups/restores of databases itself. Granted, it's another version of mysqldump in a weird way, but it seems to do the job real well. If you connect to more than one server, and want to copy the contents of the database (or just the schemas), then it'll do it for you in a nice easy way. Pretty cool!

I tried SQLyog 3 or 4 years ago when looking for a replacement for MySQLFront which had been discontinued by the developers (now taken over and has become HeidiSQL)

Maybe I was just used to using MySqlFront, but I never got to grips with it, no idea why not not because the UI was pretty much the same.
Looking at the screenshots of the latest version though I'll give it another look over.
