Forum signature links are among the LEAST important links along the rest of your suggestions.

The MOST important links (for SE benefit) are the ones you can't get yourself!!!

By links that you can't get for yourself, i'm assuming you are talking about when your site beomes popular (hopefully) and people start linking to it from all over the web. If you have reached that stage, chances are you don't even need those links (although all are welcome).

Yep, but you don't always need to wait until you become popular.

All you really need is useful or interesting content or a different take on whatever you are doing or a truly unique selling point (USP) or some other compelling feature that makes people with web sites (of whatever genre) be happy to tell their visitors.

"Hey! You should have a look at this site as well"


And to be perfectly honest IF you can't manage to do something like that then you shouldn't be pretending you are a "marketer" OR you had better hire somebody who is!

If you want some indication on how useless forum sig links are now, do a search for "Cobblers Kids" with or without quotes.

About 3 years ago candsdesign (my site) was always #1 for that search, simply because I had over two thousand sig links at another forum with that phrase. Now I have 4500+ posts with the same signature and the site is not in the first 100.
This change started in one Google update when the site slipped to page 2, can't recall which one, and each major update since had it slipping down until it is now out of sight.

So if your only method of getting a site visible is forum sig links and the like, you have a never ending road to travel, because each time you think you have enough, the next throw will land you on a snake (Google update) and down you go again.

Google just shows a snapshot of links in search engine if you use link comman.

Use Google webmaster tools

Try link baits. Analyse your competitors and try to get links from there.

Content, content and more useful, unique and relevant content. Once other sites sees the value and link to your site - you get better oraganic backlinks

try to build blogs related to your websites content; promote them, and see how much traffic it will drive to your website. (by the way, make a CATCHY banner in your blogs linking back to your websites; banner is is more attractive to click than a pain text.)

I do agree that writing good content, or having great link bait is the best way to get high quality backlinks.. All those links will be relevant to the site that is linking to you, since they are linking to similar content telling their members..

Absolutely not. Because as you show they do.

and it will increase the pointless number shown by the link: command. But that is ALL it will do.

Sig link spamming a webmaster forum (here for instance) with DVD sites, Pharmacy sites, dating sites etc etc isn't going to improve your conversion rate by any significant amount.
Might get you a few more tyre kickers though and waste a bit more bandwidth.

Try this one www.tnx.net ....besides building manual backlinks...
