I received the following email from somebody who was looking to have a link on my site. After following the links it seems to be true, but I want to see what other people think about this as well. I did alter my link pages as a result of this email just to be safe...plus they were horrable and needed to be orgonized

The reason I send this email to you is followed:

There is a *BIG PROBLEM* :

very many link pages I see are named like
"links.html" or "links.php" etc. or located in a folder named "links"
*BUT*
Already since Dec. 2003 Google just *IGNORES all outbound links* placed on pages like *links.html* or *links.htm* etc. or located in folders named
*links*.

Although Google crawls and indexes all pages
they are *completely worthless for Google Ranking!*
(Google dont show up any back links from such pages.
So I have no advantages to be linked from pages like http://www.domain.com/links/page1.html
or http://www.domain.com/links.html etc.)

So the same is if YOU have link partners which are linking to you from pages named like "links.html" or
"http://www.domain.com/links/page1.html" etc.
ALL these links are completely worthless for YOUR Google Ranking! (thats just the way Google tries to fight spammers. at the moment more than 85% of all link pages on the internet are named the
wrong way.
Google just take the other few for ranking...)

pages named like "something-links.html" or "links-something.html" or "links123.html" are OK *at the moment*. (except sponsored_links.html or sponsored-links.html etc. Google ignores
them too.
I have *tested* all these my own. you can test it too. just take link pages
with PageRank 4/10 or greater)
But probably Google will soon treat all the pages including the word
"links" the same way...
so better you dont have any file includes the word "links" at all!

*Just rename them* to something like "mywebtips" or "friends" or
"moresites" or "pages"
or any other word(s) you like!

Google does not ignore all pages named links, although most feel they will soon.

It's a safe practice to not name a page "links".

In my experience it does not follow the links on page name "links"

this is news to me..

in all the pages i have done i ave named them links.htm or links etc..

and they do ave a very good pr rank..

some even have a rank of 7+..

if u r gonna believe wat seo guy says then y his links page is named link-to-us.html
