if you have a site that has some pr, put a few links there...you will definitely get spidered soon that way
Soon and more often also.
Link vs. submission...link wins every time.

Getting linked to is by far the best and quickest way to get spidered by Google. I have tried the list URL and it takes an age. Still it is worth trying to submit to all major SE's as some SE's seem to get browsed by Google. Persevere with Yahoo directory and DMOZ. My last site took 13 months on DMOZ!
The fastest time I've gotten google to index a page within a new website is about two days.
I suspect its because I've been posting to forums.
I don't think I've ever managed to get Google to crawl through an entire site in less than a month.
I'm guessing Google simply has a policy to crawl through only a percentage of a site at a time.
To get a web site search engine effecitve, you need to wait and you need links.
Depending on the size of a site and its linking structure you can get a whole site indexed in 24 h.
Because one of our websites has content that changes each and every day Google pays us a visit each and every day. Just by having a link from the site we can get our clients sites indexed very quickly. We dont sell this service its just an added bonus for our clients but we are in the development stage of creating a very search engine friendly directory for any persons wanting fast inclusion (paid and free exchange).
Well I got on the first page of Google and AOL at one time. Then here recently I got on page 5 of both. Now my site is still listed, but it's no longer in the top 10 pages. Anyways, my site was listed on page one, but it was keyword Horrormovies, not Horror(space)Movies. Thus, I didn't get any traffic from it.
