Hi there

I have noted that for the same keyword my website is positioned in yahoo and google with a huge difference....

example some key is n1 in yahoo and not even listed in the top 100 in google or viceversa.

How can that be?

Because Google mainly ranks pages based on external factors like backlinks and Google still gives important to onpage factors. try getting some content where people will link to your site and you should see improvement in google

As Google and Yahoo! continue their volley of product offerings, I thought it would be useful to compare the interface design solutions each company employed to solve similar user needs. In other words: how does Yahoo’s version of a product (Maps, Local Search, Image Search, etc.) compare to Google’s? Though some product offerings are virtually indistinguishable (Web Search, Image Search), others differ significantly (Groups, Product Search).
At a high level, Yahoo! has better integrated business goals with their product designs. For example, their comparison shopping site features multiple entry points that better match consumer shopping behaviors (browse by brand, browse by category, featured products, etc.) than Froogle’s single search box. Yahoo! also has more robust answers to vertical information finding (Travel, Finance, Movies, etc.) than Google’s Web Search features. That doesn’t negate the value of Google’s simple solutions to these tasks. It’s just that a simple solution sometimes requires something in addition to (or other than) a search box.

It can be because Google and Yahoo are different. Seriously, how can a Toyota last 10 years and a Ford fall apart in 2 years? Because they're made differently.

Hi folks

I am not sure but i think i have replied to a similar kind of post some where on the forums. Anyways no harm in describing the situation again in few lines.

Infact their is no versus (Google vs Yahoo) sort of a competition exists.
Good SEOs always implement the best optimization factors which played a decisive role over the time. Now the question is why your website is not keeping the same results on both search engines top slots. The answer is you need to find out the optimization instructions for both search engines seperately (which could be different from one another but does'nt matter if you know how to act) compare those instruction and implement once you are 100% sure about them, and then keep monitoring the changes. So inorder to carry out your first move you should go and study those website showing on top for that keyword and then analyse their off page and on page factors. I am sure you'll find the answers.

Stay tunned!

Cheers

Google and Yahoo have way different algorithms - hence the difference. I have noticed though that Yahoo is getting better and better with relevancy in past few months.
