If you get one quality link then best. If you get reciprocal theme related quality link then also best.

Obviously......one-way links are most valuable links.......just a few one-way links can get you a good page rank.

If your site is really good with something specific then user will love it and itself link it on their stes. Its also called natural linking.

you can also get one way links through article submission, oneway directory submissions etc.

It's better to have one way links to your web site.
The only difference is that one way links are in many times paid, reciprocals are almost always free.
In both cases you must have your link on relevant to your content web sites in order to have a good effect on SE.

Think about it this way (Hypothetically):

Would you rather have a link pointing to your domain from a site such as randomblog.com, without returning the link?

....or exchange links with google's homepage?

You'd probably get tons more traffic, power, etc. from google.com

Absolutely NOT.
A site could have HUNDREDS of one way links from every FFA site going, do you honestly think they would be of any value?

FORGET about relevance WRT search engines, it doesn't matter
algorithms can check two words to see if they are equal, but not tell if they mean the same! Language is too complex to calculate.
Go use BabelFish translate a phrase from one language (that you know) into another then put the translation back in and translate it back to the original.


example:

What are these relevant to?

1: Robin took his bow and left.

2: Fencing Products available from [name of website]

3: Skirts and Cushions.

Reciprocal link and One way link both have some problem.I think best to Go for 3way link exchange.it contains both reciprocal and one way link exchange.

Lets see if I can make a post nobody disagrees with.... (one can dream right?)
All other things being equal, the following is true:
One way is better than recipricol
Links from relevants sites are better than from random sites
Links from large popular sites are better than from small sites
Links from sites that don't link out much are better than sites filled with links

A good link is something that falls into as many of those categories as possible.
A recipricol link from a small site that has nothing to do with yours that is full of nothing but other links will not help you and may hurt you.

A highly trafficed website related to your website links to your site and not to many others is probably a good link.

None of these things are absolutes. Google's alogrithems are complex and you shouldn't try to cheat them, you will get burned.

If your really concerned about SEO, make it easy for a spider to find out what your site is about, use a good list of short but relevant keywords. Create good dynamic content that your users will want to link to and build natural links.

I'll agree with that, Keith. That's pretty well what I would have said. The only part that might cause some conjecture is "all other things being equal"...since they never are.

But...the rest of that makes sense, although I suspect most people will ignore "none of those things are absolutes".

Search engines algorythms are getting more complex and the idea of reciprocal linking when overdone could potentially raise a red flag.

Without repeating what Keith has said in his post (please read it - 2 above this) then the idea of one way links from relevant sites would appear much more random and natural to a search engine than reciprocal linking.

relevance is the biggest factor with artificial links
good content creates links
good structure creates traffic
qulity information makes conversions
