Is it at all possible that Google and probably other SEs lend greater importance to one TLD over another...?

If somebody is searching in the UK, it looks like .co.uk may be given some preference. .com vs .org doesn't seem to matter.

I was thinking along the same lines as I executed some general searches using Yahoo ad Google's .co.uk and .com TLD and got differing results depending which SE I used.
