No, what this is is the same problem that pervades SEO and has for quite some time now: a so-called "industry leader" (aka spammer...and Boykin is a noted spammer) with vested interests taking the side of so-called SEOs with vested interests who buy links strictly for perceived search engine benefit. All Google is trying to do is separate those idiots from people who understand that paid links are advertising, not an SEO tactic as promoted by the greasy-handed A-listers. If you don't believe me, scroll down to the comments and see Boykin's whining. This is the same crap that he and Michael Gray and Aaron Wall and others have been saying for months now.

Google's only mistake in all of this is in their explicit trust in a competitor's service and their failure to recognize that most people who submit to Yahoo! directory are doing so to manipulate at least two search engines (Google's and Yahoo!'s) and couldn't care less about the advertising/direct customer benefit (mainly because they know there's next to none anymore.)

I'd love to see what would happen if they dropped Yahoo! as a trusted source of information...every so-called SEO who wanted to see the "same treatment" between Yahoo! and other paid directories would explode, and the results would be really funny.

There is only ONE thing you need to know about buying links.

Buy them for the traffic and the advertising value ONLY and you will NEVER be wrong!
