Hi all,

Okay this has been bugging me for ages, and with out spending ages writing some complicated script which would probably break googles terms.

How can i have a search term have something which can then tell me which page on google results my site appears.

i hope this makes sense, if anyone doesnt get what i mean i will try to clarify further.

I'm not sure. But off the top of my head, I'd say either Google Search AJAX API, or Google Alerts?

I never took the time to learn java that well, so javascript is kind of foreign to me, and AJAX is over my head. They have a search API that works in AJAX that runs a Google search and returns the result set, even populates the screen. If you know your way around a var you might be able to hack that and add a few steps to automatically fire off your query and then look at the results for your URL.

I haven't used Google Alerts, either, but they can tell you when something happens with the SERPs. I know Chris Hirst can answer that one, because he's who I learned about them. I think Alerts will send you an email for notification.

If you have a Google account, you could go to Webmaster Tools > Statistics > Top Search Queries.

I know this won't tell you "Exactly" what page your site is on, but it will give you a sampling of what queries are ranking well (with their average position, and the percentage chance that that is where they're listed).

Just something to look at.....

O i know about that, i use my Analytics too which shows them.

Its just i often (when i a little bit bored) have to sit there searching for what i want/think should pull up my site(s) and it takes a long time to go trough many pages and often miss my link...

Just a though, would it be possible to some how use file_get_contents() to get the page and just search it for my url(s)?

but how could i have this done to all pages returned?

The answer is...you can't. At least not with anything close to 100% accuracy.

Problem 1: different datacenters. Google.co.uk will return different results than google.com (multiple DCs here), google.ca, google.co.in, etc.

Problem 2: different servers. Different servers, even in the same DC, can return different results.

Problem 3: personalization. Google attempting to learn who you are and personalize queries to suit your needs can return different results.

Problem 4: geotargeting. See personalization.

There are probably other factors in that, but this is sufficient.
