Hello.

I was looking for a good way to move a huge 8GB mysql database between servers. I noticed that google is giving me the same results whether I search for "move large mysql database" or "move huge mysql database"

....... and I thought, it probably is that Google in fact automatically gives you the same search results for synonymous words, in other words, it considers that huge=large and thus the above two searches give similar or identical results.

is my guess right or am I way off the line?

That has about 1,000,000 results. I would think this happens mostly when they don't have that much to choose from, or when they have entirely too much to choose from and want to point out some other related search that might be helpful. But yours is kind of in the middle.

Both servers are probably hosted by different 3rd parties, right?

thank you very much for this very kind reply to my question.

I am moving from a VPS to my own dedicated box and I can't tell you how happy I am finally moving to my own dedicated!!

I have root access and all the standard tools (cpanel, phpmyadmin, etc) on both, the old vps and the new dedicated box.

My one hour research lead me to what I consider as the sound basis to establish my solution on, which you can read on this page
http://www.techduke.com/2007/05/19/g...using-bigdump/

I believe that there is my best potential solution as the guy moved a DB far bigger than mine, and did so successfully.

I even have advantages such as having root access on both vps and new dedicated server. I wish I could contact that guy to employ him to do this move for me.

can you do that?
