Which is the Best Way to check BROKEN LINKS and EXTERNAL LINKS of our websites ?

Please suggest Me any one Good tools for Both Requirements.

Well, i personally use an online tool which gives me complete details on all broken links on my website. Use can use this too here at http://validator.w3.org/checklink

I find this free online tools very useful from checking broken links. And lol.i just hope you will find it useful.

For broken external links check your error log. The 404's that used to be real pages are them.
Simplest solution, send 301's to those urls to get them to the new pages

I reviewed this link checker, but it only checks links INSIDE the website. I'm more interested in checking the other websites that I link to and if those links are still active.

I have a client who is a manufacturers rep and they of course list a lot of manufacturers links on their website to different products. Sometimes, these products change on the website or become obsolete.

Is there a way to check those types of links.

Your help is appreciated.

I like what I'm reading here. I suddenly had something to do with my websites tomorrow--checking for broken links. Thanks for the shared insights. lol

as everyone has already mentioned xenu, i will verify that it is a quality program

however if you have google webmaster tools that will give you an alert every time it crawls your site and finds a broken link.

its best to always have gwt from the start on any site and use xenu after every update to your site.

its especially good for finding spam on your forums, you can run a scan, find all external links and then scroll through for any obvious spam - like ones with "hugejuggs" in the url for example
