Here's what I know about Google but keep it to yourself - I promised not to tell a soul. So I am only posting this here.

Lets say you need your site to be immediately indexed and ranked high in Google then substitute the 'www' in your URL for '911' like this:

www.yoursite.com to 911.yoursite.com then submit your site

Google will treat this as an emergency and give the URL preferential treatment, however bear in mind it does nothing for PR, only your sites ER.

By the way if you live in the UK and have a UK domain use:

999.yoursite.co.uk

I know that "Google is trying to monopolize the web with their search engine" and webmasters are going to dance with its acts..
Google is lately going the wrong way by acting in many ways against SEOs.

You really think so? The Google Webmaster Team consists of some of the coolest people I know. Granted, not everyone is happy about Google's broad scope, but the DoubleClick deal did go through even after a review. Google also removed its affiliation with the SEO subsidiary of Performics which was acquired in the DoubleClick deal.

Do you really think that Google is that evil? If so, why?

They are in hunt against activities of SEO and their services.
One way link building, contextual link building etc. are being dumped by google lately.

This is not really fair.

sizzler that's a very one-sided view.

I don't agree with everything Google does by any means and I think they've long since shed their do no evil motto, but I don't at all think they're out to get me just because I might list SEO as part of my job title.

Google is a business and they make decisions based on what they think is in the best interest of their business. Sometimes those decisions will impact your business in a way you might not like, but that doesn't mean Google made the decision to hunt you down.

Google does their share of things I think aren't in the best interests of me or the web in general, but I don't for a even a moment think they're out to get me.

Agreed on that point, but some people have gotten around it. For all other things, you should nofollow those links. They still can give you a traffic boost.

Chetan,

I took your statements in the way they appear to be intended, that Google were being unfair to the very people who try to manipulate the results in a manner that suits them.
Maybe you should read this -> Is Google Wrong to Make Changes that Affect Small Businesses.

The other thing to understand is that SEO is NOT link building and link building is NOT SEO.

Link building is advertising and marketing NOT optimising. The people who think link exchanging and link begging are the way to good results are setting themselves up for a very long and disappointing journey.

I wholeheartedly agree with Steven here:
Quote:
Google is a business and they make decisions based on what they think is in the best interest of their business. Sometimes those decisions will impact your business in a way you might not like, but that doesn't mean Google made the decision to hunt you down.

Google does their share of things I think aren't in the best interests of me or the web in general, but I don't for a even a moment think they're out to get me.
Google aren't out to "get" real SEOs but they are in a "war" against people who attempt manipulate the SERPs in their favour.
Genuine SEOs are the ones who actually work with Search Engines in making their clients sites better for the visitors. The aim of any Search Engine is to provide the best possible results showing the most relevant pages for their users (the searchers) queries, and a real SEOs aim is to make their clients pages/sites better for the people who are going to see them. I don't see any clash with the SEs aim there.

Links or more correctly the anchor text of links is one thing where the google algo was capable of being manipulated, and still is to some degree. However each major update reduces this sensitivity, and with each update the link beggers find themselves further behind the ball.
The steady movement away from the reliance on anchor text started way back in 2003 with the "Florida" update and has continued ever since. The latest skirmishes are with "paid links".

It's not Google's problem that these short sighted "SEOs" who think that links are everything get left behind, it's the people themselves! They have had 4 years now to see the trends and get a clue. But like hamsters on a wheel they continue to chase links at an ever increasing rate and continue to go nowhere.
They steadfastly refuse to see what is blindingly obvious and continue down the route of diminishing returns with their "get more links" philosophy.
Wake up people! It's morning and a few thousand more of your links lost their limited value overnight. So back on that wheel and run around some more!

And you should have to agree with this atleast Chris, that SEO companies nowadays just try to manipulate the search results by link building methods..
I never disagree to the fact that SEO is NOT link building and link building is NOT SEO, but you should know that SEO companies are lately trying to just build link and manipulate the search results.
And google is against that act.

Your post is correctly upto the points, but what would someone do in that huge competitions, to make it into the top of the SERPS?

Here's another tip - just try to read for once and resist the urge to type - we get it - you must of typed in 75 of of your 100+ posts that "improving backlinks is the key to good SEO"

Please don't say it again - unless I am wrong - and the rest of the forum members need that nugget of misinformation reinforced.

Case and point:

Then more fool them. So called "SEO companies" have always tried to manipulate the results by link bombing their way into the SERPs.
It's simply that they haven't realised yet that the world has moved on since 1999. Search engines have improved their algos, Internet users have become more savvy and simply being at #1 for a generic term doesn't bring the sales in, it might bring in a lot of bandwidth wasting traffic and a lot of timewasting disinterested punters and a less than 1% conversion.
But there are far more useful things that can be done, that will give a better conversion rate.

Chris - I absolutely agree - I started a thread a few months back called:

SEO is not the be all and end all

The basic premise was how do you keep your visitors interested once they reach your site, what is your call to action, or value proposition? Clearly a site sitting at number 1, page 1 in Google with poor content, will drive traffic to number 2, page 1 by use of the back button.
