That is absolutely not true. About link building, Google is after artificial attempts to manipulate their PageRank algorithm.

To be specific, in India you can buy PageRank for a very low price.

Therefore Google plays fair. They are defending their search quality and their searchers from spam/scam.

Google do slightly worry me with their progress. I think they do deserve their market share of searches because they have worked hard and improved the ability for people to find what they want on the internet. The free programs they have created like Google Earth are very useful. But what scares me is the amount of information they hold about individuals like search results, and the privacy concerns of Google Street View.
