Hi,

To start of with, these are the META Tags I have used in this website. I followed a guide I found on the web so I dont know if all is correct, especially seen as I know next to nothing about setting them.

Code:
<title>Furniture Clinic.co.uk Home Page - leather - wood- resorative- cleaner - dye - furniture</title>

<meta name="description" content="Furniture Clinic offers a wide range of exclusive cleaning products previously only available to the trade">

<meta name="keywords" content="Wood Leather Cleaner Resorative Dye">

<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index follow">
Ok, so I saw last week that google had indexed my site in their database, however it was displaying the information in the title tags and also the first few words I had on my site. I had thought that google displyed the information written in the <meta name> tag in speech marks eg, content="blah blah blah"

Could you please tell me what I have done wrong, or how to set the meta tags so google displays whats written n the content space. A brief description of how meta tags work would be great also.

Thanks very much

ben

Meta tags recomendations:
Your title tag should be broken up into relevant phrases, seperated by a dash, for example:
Furniture Clinic - Leather Furniture Restoration - whatever...
(keep in mind that the spider/bot is not going to read every character of an extreemly long title tag, try and keep it under 60 characters if you can.

Keywords should be seperated by a comma, not a space, and they are not case sensitive so you don't need to capitolize each one.

put a comma between index and follow

with that said...

Google doesn't really pay attention to the meta tags anymore, Google trys to determine what your page is about by "reading" the actual content of each page, and for the most part it does a pretty good job. Google will occasionally display data from meta tags in it's SERPs but usually only if it can't find any other relevent text on the page. That's not to say that meta tags should be ignored, there are many engines out there that still look at your site's meta tags.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I will be adding the suggestions you said later today, and I will post back a google search when google crawls the site again, to see how it went.
