Link bait is content on your site to which other sites link naturally because they want to, not because you ask them to. It creates more links to your site, which really do help you in the web promotion. you don't have to get on your knees and beg for the links because you will get many links naturally.

Check the following tips for link baiting.

1) Quality of link bait should be not just great but it should be good looking.(Good colors scheme).
2) A great ???title??? for your link baiting.(It has capacity to convert your visitors into costumers).
3) Add images to your link bait beside each paragraph.(Image will change your mind perceptions on it).
4) Post your link bait in blogs and forums.
5) Add social bookmarking websites links at the bottom of your link bait.
6) Launch your link baiting articles on social bookmarking sites.(Please choose an appropriate time when you think most of the visitors will be online at that time).
7) Promote your videos on videos sharing websites.
Thats what Link Baiting is.

Do you realize that most of those 7 tips goes against the advice in the paragraph above?

The advice in the paragraph says you don't need to ask for links. Tips 4 - 7 are all asking for links through promoting your content. Tip 3 is overkill. Adding images is a good way to get people to read your content, but adding an image next to every paragraph is too much.

OK. Here is a simple definition of link baiting:
Quote:

"Link Baiting" is an online marketing term that the newbies to this market probably are scratching their heads about.

Basically it is considered a very good idea to have a lot of websites linking to your website. It's even better if those links are from similar types of websites to your own, and even better still if the content around the link is relevant to your type of website.

You can see the effect and process of Link Baiting pretty much like advertisements. It's basically the same principle. In advertising you have to create good copy and good content to be able to entice your target market just enough for them to make a purchase.

In Link Baiting, you have to create good content so people would be so moved by it, they'd link your site or your post to their website therefor giving you link love. Link Baiting is basically creating catchy content that internet users wouldn't be able to resist. Like waving fresh meat to a hungry lion.

At least that's how I've always interpreted it.

The thing about link baiting is it is very uncontrolled, you can't really target any keyphrase using that method. I prefer link building methods where I am in control, such as article submission.
