Recently, Google announce a preview release of Google Friend Connect, a service that helps website owners grow traffic by enabling any site on the web to easily provide social features for its visitors.

Visitors to any site using Google Friend Connect will be able to see, invite, and interact with new friends, or, using secure authorization APIs, with existing friends from social sites on the web, including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and more.

Unfortunately, rumor has it that it's going to be available through an iframe and not through any sort of web service. That means you display it exactly how Google wants and you don't get to access the information, mash it up, or do anything very useful with it.

...and Google will have more opportunities to track what you do on the internets.

Didn't Facebook already op-out of this?? I can't really understand any major social site giving up their jewels for this to make Google even bigger..

Whatever google announces people use even if the majority of them are beta craps...thats the advantage of having lots of traffic...
