hi everyone! i was looking through our backlinks recently, and noticed that our most popular backlink (where we got most of our traffic from last year) is no longer showing up. its been missing for several months.

the site in question has a PR6 on the main page, the page that links directly to us has a PR5. our main page is a PR4.

any ideas why just this one site dissappeard? we are also mainly a seasonal business Jan - June... would that have something to do with it?

thanks for any ideas!

Is you site still listed within this site. If not then I would contact them to find out why.

That's odd then. The only thing that I can think of is that your site may now be listed on a page within their site that is to deep, which means that Google won't index that page anymore. But then again, I don't think that would be the cause as it has a high PR.

1. Is it a direct link and not some kind of Javascript or redirection script?
2. Check the Meta tags, do you see any content="nofollow" for the robots?
3. Check the robots.txt?
4. Check the google cached snapshot of that page, do you see your site's link?

1. its some kinda of redirection i think. he has a top frame that keeps his site navigation at the top of our page(s). you can check it our here http://promdress.net/gownstore/index.html ... we are the 2nd ugly banner down 'CB's Limited'. this is the same way he had it last year... received a little over 2 million unique ip's between Jan and June just from that link.

2. no robots metas
3. no robots.txt
4. yea we are in thier cached snapshot

I'm sorry to drag this out, but we pay a good chunk of money to this site to be linked from them. They are the biggest site on net for general 'prom' stuff which is our bread and butter. He had approx 10 million unique visitors between Jan and June '04 and we received MANY MANY sales from that link... so when my boss man saw they weren't listed as a backlink anymore, he flipped out (obviously).

thanks for all the time ya'll have spent so far, and any more suggestions/ideas would be appreciated!

thank you thank you thank you

Your page uses frames. Google supports frames to the extent that it can. Frames tend to cause problems with search engines, bookmarks, emailing links and so on, because frames don't fit the conceptual model of the web (every page corresponds to a single URL). If a user's query matches the site as a whole, Google returns the frame set. If a user's query matches an individual page on the site, Google returns that page. That individual page is not displayed in a frame -- because there may be no frame set corresponding to that page.
If you are concerned with the description of your site as seen by search engines, please read "Search Engines and Frames". It describes the use of the 'NoFrames' tag, which is used to provide alternative content. If, instead of providing alternative content, you use wording such as "This site requires the use of frames" or "Upgrade your browser", then you are excluding both search engines and people who use browsers with frames turned off. (For example, audio web browsers, such as those used in automobiles and by the visually impaired, typically do not deal with frames, which are a visual mechanism.) You can read about NoFrames in the HTML standard here: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/pres...es.html#h-16.4
It's using frames. What you could do is ask that site to give a direct link.

If it's in a frame that that could be the reason. I don't think alot of search engines like frames, but then I could be wrong.

i think focusing on the frames is kind of a silly idea (i don't know much about them tho). if it picked it up before in the frames why would it stop all of the sudeen? I doubt google decided it wanted to start penalizing sites in frames just because the sites used frames.

Maybe the link didn't us to be in frames and then they changed it. Has the page that your link is on changed all that much since your link has been on it?

But then again, it must be indexed some how by Google if you say that it has been cached by Google.

It's not penalizing sites, it only supports frames to the extent that it can.

Another option is to make use of the <noframes> tag.

First of all where did the traffic come from? Google or the Site? From what you said it sounds like it came from the site so what does it matter if google lists it as a link? You're still going to get the traffic.

Secondly I would not expect google to list it as a link as it's not. It links to another page with loads yours in a frame so there is no link. Has anyone else seen google list a page loaded in a frame as a link?

Hi,

I dont know much about frames, I generally stay well clear in terms of SEO but I came accross this site a while back and there is some interesting happenings.

this is the page click here

This is the cache snap shot

But more interesting this is the cached text only of the same page which I beleive to be the true cache of a page. All the links you see on this page go to advertisers pages.

Is this the kind of thing you where looking for?
