The question is that site used to be pr 5 and its predicted pr is 8 (though http://www.iwebtool.com)

So i assume that to have a pagerank of 3 you need >= 600000 backlinks? Isnt it a bit crazy? or iam missing something here?

Just wondering if value of links is now concern with PR

You are probably missing couple of things

1. You are seeing backlinks in Google webmaster tools but having that many links does not guarantee you anything because quality of links matter.
2. Still you are trying to follow something which Google also does not.

Possibly those backlinks are all PR0.

I still believe that PR is important.

According to some math/seo geeks, to obtain any certain PR, you would
need 20 incoming links of the same PR, 100 incoming links of one less PR,
and about 500 incoming links of two less PR.

So, if you want a PR5, get 20 incoming PR5s, or 100 incoming PR4s, or
500 incoming PR3s. Or some sort of combination of those.

But that is all just an approximation based on a few mathematical assumptions.

I think the pr of those 630320 backlinks all less than pr3,it is Possibly.hehe ,lots of those backlinks may be unuseful.you should need more pr4 or pr5 backlinks.

pagerank always is going mad thanks to the constant changed in the search algorithm

Focus more on SERP ranking and less on PR. The former is where your traffic comes from

Perhaps the domain was manually penalized in G PR... e.g. if they were selling text links?

I like to be pr0 yet that wont help much your site's prestige :\
I usually focus on getting traffic PR is something that i dont care much about, shame some people dont think the same way, for a pr0 is very hard to get backlinks because the other sites may assume you will hurt their prs if they link to you :\
If we look to the other face of the coin the other PR0 sites wont link to you because they're looking to high PR sites in order to raise their own PR +_+

Say you wanted to buy a car. How many pieces of paper with money printed on them would you need? Would it depend on the denomination? It would take less $100 than $1 bills, right?

Not that page rank means very much ... but you can't just count links to get to it.

I dont believe in future PR prediction. I you really want to gain PR, focus more in gaining RELATIVE BLs.

My website is PR 4 yet it only have around 25K BLs. FYI.

It depend on to whom you linked with, if the link site are high PR and generating heavy traffic then its useful.

The more important thing is getting ranking in search engine result pages by most competitive key phrases and PR is not any importance this way.

I have never chased PR and certainly don't have a gazillion backlinks to my site by PR 4 is a frequent occurence in my portfolio

I think we need to focus on quality of content and establishing relations with a few key partners and the 'precious' PR will follow

By the way, my PR2 site generates much more income than all my PR4 sites put together

find some quality site that will give quality backlinks and you will get higher PR

I agree, I think a few quality backlinks is more valuable than many non-quality links.

Same here. A high PR site is nothing if it has low SERP and quality traffics.
PR is just a token of appreciation from Google; but SERP is the REAL AWARD.

I never rely on the iwebtool.com tool to check my predicted PR and most of the time the tool never works.

I don't think that PR depends on number of links you have.
PR depends on your quality content,good and relevant backlinks(Not in numbers like 600000 backlinks but they are from irrelevant site) either in small quantity,you should have good CTR.
