I have been going through my analytics code and my conversion from natural listings are sometimes considerably lower than from my PPC listings.

One keyword is a really premium keyword that generated thousands of visits each month. My site has been ranked #1-3 in the natural listings consistently over the last year. Seeing this is a high traffic keyword and I am making sales from it I also decided to sponser it in adwords.

This means that when someone search my keyword I have 2 links on the first page.

A year on and I am looking at the results. The natural listing has a 2% conversion rate and my paid listing has a 12% conversion rate.

This seems odd as everyone always says that natural listings perform better than paid ads.

A couple of possible explanations I thought of were

1. spambots are finding my link through natural listings but not paid listing
2. people are clicking both links and google just records the conversion for the paid listing.
3. As my keyword is targetted at people looking to purchase my product they prefer to click and buy from paid listings as they know these are companies with something to sell.

Does anyone else see a lower conversion rate on natural traffic?

For some product it can be true but all the other products always has more conversion rate than PPC.

But as you don't have any incremental cost and so you tend to get more conversion for a longer period.
