I always see people asking about this and never thought too much of the schedule until today.
I posted a new page, reviewing some software, and a few hours later while trolling my logs, I saw search traffic coming in.

I always thought (from postings here) it took days to weeks to start showing up in the search results...

Just curious, what kind of time frame do you guys see?

I've seen web pages indexed within minutes of being posted, usually this is with popular forums. However, I've seen it take weeks for other web pages, it really depends on the quality of your sites content, the frequnecy that it updates and how many quality backlinks are pointed to it.

Usually in less that a day.

I think a lot of those questions are about new sites, not new pages on existing sites.

For me, an unfinished forum, turned up on google the next day whtout any submission

posting a sitemap would also get your site indexed faster. But i'd assume that new pages should be crawled at least within the first week of posting

Depends on the site. An article on CNN is probably indexed withing minutes. On a site that rarely updates it could be a few weeks or months.

It all depends on how often googlebot visits your site. That's usually determined by how often you update and believe it or not PR usually goes into it too.

One advantage people see in blogs is that because of the frequent updating and pinging when you do update your content can get indexed quickly.

yes it always depend upon the site popularity. But i added few pages in my site and it is very weak in search engines. So i made little efforts and i got success to make them crawl in leaa than a day. But if you say about search results then they didn't come instantly. Efforts are : bookmarked in digg and propeller. Used as signatures in forums....................

Quick indexing depends upon the fresh and unique content in your site and popularity of your site.If you add new page in your site and your site popularity is good then googlebot visits your site quickly because google want fresh content

I posted a new item on my blog today, and was shocked to see it indexed less than 15 minutes later. But then I think blogs are special in terms of being indexed ... anything that pings should get the same effect.

I've got one of my blog posts indexed on 2nd page, for its title as the search keyphrase, within 5 minutes of posting

It is all depend on the popularity and market of the website, if it is information resource then it indexed and visible in search engine result pages in short period of time.

I think your page will get index in a short time if the site also was already established.

When I add pages to my site, it seems to be in about a day. It took a while for the site itself to be shown.

If you post a fresh content your pages will be crowled soon.

It depends on which site. I have some sites that it would show up within an hour while others take 1 week. Age might be a factor.

It totally depends on the site. If it's digg then google catches the url after a short period of time (in my case 30 mins) and if it's a site like mine then it takes at least 24 hours.

For me it didn't happen too fast(usually). However, I've setup a blog and got indexed after an hour maximum ...

It will take just 2-3 hours if you can use forum and social bookmarking websites.

it really depends on what else you are doing with the site. i have had sites indexed a few hours after launch. but i have submitted site maps, and submit to social bookmarking sites as well.
