Hello all. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me what the difference between the 2 Google search delimeters were for link:.

For example:

link:google.com
Will return 324,000 results

link: google.com
Will return 26,100,000 results

I have been told a few different things, by a few different people, so I figured I would try to get a solid answer here.

IMO it's because your changing from link:google.com to link: google.com

notice the space

including the space means you are not running a link query on google but instead searching for pages that include the text link and/or google.com.

link:webURL is a command where you can get the backlinks of a website in a particular SE; link: web URL??? I dont know how im going to explain it!

The link: command with the space actually returns all the links pointing to a particular domain minus any internal links. The link: command without the space appears to only show links that Google considers Backlinks.

It does differentiate between www and non www domain names, so if you are going to use this delimiter make sure you check both. Unless you were smart from the very begining and made sure all links on your site point to either 1 or the other.
