It's over with PR, as I heard google announced it will stop displaying it in google toolbar and updating it.

I guess it is important because in search engine usually you will gain traffic if your website is ranking high so I guess it is important for a site to have PR ranking for search engine purposes

for a good link exchange; the higher the PR, the better.

PageRank is one of many many tools to use as a gauge, thermometer, dip stick etc.

Rely on one and you miss out on other signals, rely on many and you'll overdose on information.

Use the most widely reviewed and tomorrow someone will come up with another one, that's a good thing...

I think pr is not important. The most important is the keyword ranking in SERP. It's ok if google will totally disable pagerank.

It is not important unless you want to sell links. PR will drop if the values of your backlinks drop.

well.. as other people here saying, PR is not always that important..
it's just one of the point that can help you in site monetizing... in this case, you can sell links if you have high PR.. instead of just doing link exchange..

however, you should always put traffic as the main concern if you're trying to monetize your website/blog..

PR is for a page only and it does not refer to the rank of that page in google searches.

PR mainly helps you while exchanging links because if you won't have sufficient PR then high PR rank site will not exchange link with you. But as google doesn't update PR on regular basis the PR of site can be more or less than it is showing on the bar.

page rank usually drop, when your backlinks are less than your current pagerank. Means let say your pagerank is 4. and your backlinks are from 0-3, then your pagerank will drop in next google updates.

PR is just like a medal. But like medal not all students that have medal in their neck is brilliant.
