And because it's newsworthy. When was the last time a new browser hit the masses - and got so many downloads? There's a lesson in here for the rest of us.

But do you think GoogleBot crawls Google's home page? I mean, they already know what they're going to find there. Plus, it's just a form with very little content.

I agree, hype in unnecessary. I think it's already one-upped on the competition. I am actually very glad that google didn't just stick it to the top. What are you thoughts on the Chrome browser?

I think it's very fast. I don't know beyond that - I'm using it for some of my browsing. FireFox 3 is also very fast, especially if you don't have any or many add ons, and I think I prefer it. Nicer UI, and all that. Chrome is a little light on features, but they seem to have done a very good job of putting the right features in.

I think Chrome is off to a good start too. Very fast. I think most of the criticism about it being sparse and lacking features is pointless at the moment since Chrome isn't really meant yet for the general public. When it gets to version 1.0 then people can criticize, but you have to give it some time.
I like FF too. I am an extension junkie though and FF has been hanging a lot for me since 3.0 to the point where it's getting extremely frustrating. I'm still going to use it, but I can see how Chrome could get me to switch in time.

I thing I don't like is that it doesn't warn you when you close multi-tabs.
the thing that annoys me is that most of the people dislike it because it comes from google and they don't like google's almost monopoly so they decided before trying Chrome that they weren't gonna like it.
What also annoys me is that some people love it just because Google created it.
No one looks at it as a new browser rather than a new Google product.

The closing Chrome without warning is annoying, but I assume it will be built in at some point. It's still a very stripped down, bare bones browser at the moment. I'm not going to be using it now, but I can see how it's off to a good start and as it becomes more polished I can see where I would use it more.

Interesting - I'm always annoyed at those "close multiple tabs" warnings, and wish they weren't there in the first place! Guess you can't please everybody?
I've got my browsers set to open all the tabs I had open from last session on startup, so it's not a big deal to lose them, but, also, I've never had trouble mistaking the app close with a task close button. I thought everyone was like me.

I guess the best option would be: Make those "close tabs" warnings optional. I usually don't like them but I like having them in case i'm gonna close something important by mistake. I feel safe with them. It's like a seat belt. Everybody hates wearing them but they do save lifes.

I think the best option is make everything optional too. One thing I want to see more of in Chrome is more options to control th environment.
John I have things set up that way and I can understand how it's annoying to see the warnings, but I find it more annoying to have the whole browser close when I accidentally hit CTRL-Q instead of CTRL-W. Not like they're far away on the keyboard.

Google released it now just to get some feedback. I think before we decide one way or the other if it's going to be our default browser we need to give them sometime to reach version 1.0. For where they are I think they're off to a good start. but they do need to do some work if the goal is to get me to use Chrome as my default browser.
