Well it seems my site's backlinks jumped up recently and my site appears much higher in the SERP's for targeted keywords, yet my PR just droped from a 5 to a 3 today. Explain this. Google PR is a joke.

You just explained it. Google PR is a joke. That's the truth, and that explains what you see.

Actual performance in the areas worth being concerned over is up. A meaningless number is down. It's a little like playing golf. You should be happy right now.

Actually, I am quite pleased...traffic is up. What else could I ask for? Oh, I know...a billion dollars, and for Google to finally dump that little green bar that has been a dark stain on the webmastering world for too long...not to mention a headache for them. It's time they admit that they developed a bad idea.

I don't think they're going to - or, if they do, it won't be because of advice they get here. It's very rare I find myself quoting AA with a straight face, but they pray "Grant me the strength to change the things I can change, the patience to accept the things I can't change, and the wisdom to tell them apart".

Traffic is up, hopefully people are clicking ads. What harm comes from the green bar, I wonder?

yes its joke, pr is important only while selling the domain ı think :S

I do not care, I think its a joke but 1 page rank can make your domain cost 100s of dollars more

Even though its a joke, alot of people still measure a sites worth by pr, the higher it is, the more you can get for it

I doubt website sales will be effected much by Pagerank in the near future, with the issue about paid text links and Google penalties to sites that sell them it kinda removes that revenue field.

Mine is zero with 10,000 indexed page. But it's only 2 months old so I guess that would be the problem.

i a, agree with you.coz of less than 1 PR no one ready to accept links of my site

You just say it google page rank is a joke having a good page rank wont get you high SERPs, google page rank is only relevant if you are going to trade links

My site had already huge back links and it was on #1 almost all keywords but it is now down and its PR is 2 from PR4. It seems you have huge links in short of time.

PR is not important anymore.

I wouldn't call a Joke something that gave wings to Google, and thing that still have such an audience, and lot of webmasters talking about it
But to answer your post. Backlinks jumped you said, what about external links, they jumped too? If yes, maybe that is the reason.
Also some backlinks don't pass PR.
You may have lost some of good backlinks...
Where did you checked your bl? Google doesn't show all of them, try Yahoo...
And for the last, the PR you see, toolbar PR is just a glimpse of true pr and it is not immediate process where you should see results in first update... This is the reason why PR has no such importance anymore, it is not accurate data.

But PR is not a joke :P

Google change the alogrithm i think. many sites change degrees the PR and increase the traffic

It may be a mistake in the algorithm..as myn also droped from 1 to 0.

after 18 hrs i got it back...

I agree. If there was a link between keyword rank and PR I would think otherwise, but my site has dropped in rank from PR3 to PR2 recently and I am still getting record numbers o visitors to my site from google.

I can't remember a time when it was "important" other than a way to gauge how many important sites you are linked to.

Keep in mind PageRank is just one small part of SEO as Matt Cutt's says. PageRank is all do with links.
