A good question remains however, what is natural behavior as to getting links to your sites... As the example of Chrome was given, there are many more sites that happen to get huuuge amounts of links and still do not get banned. I think the theory is just a tat too simple put. I am afraid there is more behind it.

Is anyone here got 100 links per day? Maybe for the old site, but for a new one? i don't think so.

I can do it but I don't recommend. . . I just limit it to 80.

Yep, that's right, 695, 349, 975 and 14,763 respectively. AND INSTANTLY. Anybody spot the flaw in "limiting the number to 80" plan?
And of course for "some of you" this isn't the only forum you are getting signature links from posting at. Lets say 5 forums with blog ping, with an average of 200 posts per forum, oooh! Now look, your new post just got 1000 instant links.
You go ahead and do these things such as sig link posting, RSS feed etc and THEN come out with these silly ideas that you "limit" your link scavenging activities to some arbitary number. It only goes to prove, that in reality you do not understand the medium you claim to be "experts" in

I really do suggest that you all try and get the ability to look around you at the real world and see things for what they really are. Stop believing the half-assed drivel that get spread around by "experts" who have done nothing more than read some other "expert"'s opinions, half understood it, and then promptly publish it a fact.

Of course I do realise that some of you will completely miss my point because I'm not a self proclaimed "expert" submitting "articles" to every crappy article dump going and this is another lecture, but hey, this is like SEO University.

Not here to TELL you exactly how to do things, but here to teach you how to LEARN to do things.

Quality links is more important in any backlinks campaign. one quality links is better than 100 junk links.

As Chris clearly showed, your scale is off. You can add a few 0 to your number and you'll be closer to the reality

I say that content is more important than incoming links. well, lets say that you may get traffic from those links, but it is only with content that you can get a visitor buy a product or service from your site. If you get a visitor from a certain website yet your content doesn't offer that much interest, the user may just pass by and search for another site.

But as chris said, this is not the only forum I'm posting. Are you saying that I'm doing 800?

Work it out,

364 posts here (currently) get your post count at every other forum you post at that also shows a "latest post" link and add them up.
The total is the potential number of links your "blog post" gets in one day. If you "ping" your post as you publish it by the time all the aggregators have grabbed the post link and published it. there could be several thousand links to it in a matter of minutes, the vast majority of which are of no value, but they are there.

The conclusion is that very very few of you have any inkling of the medium that you are supposed to be working in/on.
The Internet is a live, ever changing medium, it grows and changes at a phenomenal rate. This forum for example, and it's not a hugely busy one, "grows" by two or three hundred pages every day.
Places like WMW, DP, WPW, V7N can each double that at least, and that is only one tiny corner of the overall picture.
With millions of pages appearing every day and a substantial number also disappearing, the "sudden" appearance or disappearance of a few hundred links to a page simply isn't of statistical significance.
It might be in your tiny corner of the Internet of course, but Google, Yahoo! and msn et al have the whole universe to look after.
