What does matter is the way the sites link to you and how often new links show up to your site. If you wake up tomorrow and, overnight, 1 million other sites decided to link to you, that would not affect your position in any way (what it may do is hurt your listing because it will look like spam). Here is how links work for you:

1. If you are a plastic surgeon and another plastic surgery site links to you, that will give you a boost because you are being linked to a site that has some relevance to yours.
2. If your site sells used network equipment and the link to your site is like this used network equipment that will give you a boost because the link is a search term.
3. If you acquire new links slowly over the course of time, that will give you a boost because it looks like your site is gaining popularity.
4. If people link to internal pages of your site, as well as your home page, that will give you a boost because it looks like you have lots of pages of relevant information.

I do agree that getting links from related niches help greatly, it is also good to get links with relevant anchor text

I think no link has value without proper optimization of site.

I believe that when people talk about good quality links they are talking about relevant links and of course relevant links are better but harder to get.. But i do believe that quantity has a high weight on a linking strategy it all depends on the keyword

Good links are always good to websites. The hidden links that are often associated to black hat seo that destroys the good standing of websites. These people are unscrupulous and unmindful of other's feelings.

If you created good content and many link to you that would look spam? I don't think so. The most important is keep your links natural, go to relevancy or quality rather than quantity.

incoming links it's important if you use it in good way

because when we put our links to some blogs ( do follow ) we put thousnd of urls

in the same time

you have to be patient and put your urls as slowly you can

my be weakly or monthly

then you will get benefit from it

and it will be account

choose quality links . . . in linking! don't just link choose where to link, make sure its related and has a good content.

I was also thinking in the similar way ... when popular websites issued an article and many small websites grab that one and give a courtsey with their link. So that means in an hour they are able to get thousands links.

How google will handle them. Is google adopting different techniques for reputed websites and different for small.
