I have heard some discussion about blocking low paying ads for google adsense, how is that even possible, since the ads vary?

I don't know if there is a sure fire way to do that as you don't know which ads pay little and which ones pay more. But when you go to you AD SETTINGS, you will notice an ad-filter which allows you to take out sites that don't apply to your site at all, that would be my advice before trying to block other links that do apply.

one idea is to find one of the many sites that tracks the most popular keywords searched, and try to eliminate the ads unrelated to those keywords...either way, it's very tough to really pinpoint which keyword an ad is serving.

Boy hasn't there been some really low paying ones lately - I had my first 1 cent one a few weeks ago and have had plenty more since then. I love the good days when the prices are high but when they're bad they're "really bad"

I agree... I've seen many one cent ads too. Some days I don't even get one lousy dollar froms my clicks.

Mate I am happy to get a dollar a day! (Even though its against TOS to dicuss earnings).

I am thinking about scrapping them altogether - the ads just don't pay for themselves at the moment - they are just an eyesore on my pages. I earn a great deal more from people buying text link ad space. (which still isn't much hehe)

I wouldn't try to block low paying ads. It is also in Google best interest to put the highest paying ads possible on your site. I'd let them try to increase the amount payed for each click, after all they have all the information. Trying to second guess them could turn out badly.

Good advice Mikuraman, I encountered clients who have tried similar procedures and in the long run, regreted dearly.
