Can anybody tell me how Google Alert works??? As per i know Google alert pick up fresh and unique content.. But i have seen that many of the old pages are also picked Up in Google Alert ... So i am bit confused...

Any tips to pick up my blogs and sites in Google alerts?

The Google Alerts are confounding me. I'm trying to get my blog picked up using what my blog's content is about, yet I can't seem to get in there. But in my Google Alerts, I see blogs being picked with one mention of the same keyword. And rarely are these revelant to the content.

My blog is about TV chef Alton Brown. Back in August I met him at an event. So I blogged about it. His name appeared in the heading and in the lead sentence to the blog, yet Google never picked it up. The same day, some one uses his name as a passing mention in a blog and gets picked up in Google Alerts. My whole blog post was about meeting him yet I don't get picked up! Grr!

I am, however, having some success with other keywords, like the names of his shows, but I have yet to figure out way I can't get picked up in the Google Alerts under his name as a keyword.

I've pinged Google, too. Still nothing

What's the secret formula?

im using it before... usually those content are comes from google news... you have to choose kws or category topic that you want to receive, you can also set if you want to receive daily, weekly etc etc...

I know how to set up Google Alerts, I have them for all of the topics related to my website.

What I'm asking is (and I think the original poster was too) how does Google determine or locate your blog content for the keywords?

My results have been hit and miss.

I am using google alert. It will give me all the news which are related to google.

maybe google alert is programmed to detect certain strings of keywords...? i hope to discover the secret code someday

Well, now I'm totally confused about this.
Last week I got picked on the Google Blog Alerts 3 times.
The past my past 4 entries have not been picked up.

Alerts have a lot to do with when Google actually "finds" the page.. This is why you see old news.. Google just found it..

As for not finding it at all, you do need to meet a certain threshold of interest on Google's part.. If they listed everything in News/Alerts just because it had that word in it you could get flooded with alerts..

But that's sort of what's happening.

I'm getting a lot of Google Alerts where one of my keywords is mentioned once and only once in the entire blog. The blog entry ends up not being anything about the topic.

Yet, mine, which are about the keyword, contains the keyword more than once rarely gets picked up.

I just don't understand the method Google uses to deterime what blogs are selected. I'm looking for what they want because right now, it looks as if there isn't really a standard when one blog entry with little content is pick up but a blog filled with the content is overlooked.

It's similar to SERP rankings.. Their blog is seen as more "newsworthy" than yours so theirs gets seen while yours doesn't..

Sucks, but that's the way it is..

Also, I'm assuming you are running WP.. Make sure that you have a long Ping list so that every time you make a post it gets pinged out there a lot.. It can help..
