Ive set up an account for Google Analytics, but I think about half of the hits registered on there are from myself. Is there anyway I can set it to ignore my home internet connection when I have to visit my website?

You can. When you first log into Analytics, click the Edit link under settings. What you then want to do is add a filter. The Add Filter page is a simple form. You name the filter and then use the drop down box to select the type of filter. You'll probably want the exclude traffic from IP option.

You'll need to know your IP address and then you need to make sure to use the following format when entering your IP

163\.212\.171\.123

The \ is necessary. Google is using regular expressions and the \ says to treat the . as a . and not a special character.

One other thing you'll need to watch is whether or not your ISP changes your IP address. Sometimes when my DSL goes down temporarily I get assigned a new IP. It doesn't happen often, but if it does you have to change the IP in the filter.

Hope that helps.

I found it when I first signed up for Analytics. I was having the same issue as the OP knowing most of the traffic my site was seeing was from me. Now I get enough traffic where my own visits don't skew thngs significantly so I don't bother with the filter. But back then I was very glad I could.

This information helps me a lot. I was wondering how to filter my IP for not including myself on the web statistics of my website. Thank for sharing this information.

Thanks!

Just to check, my IP address would be listed under 'IPv4 Address' when typing msconfig under the command prompt?

Yeah. All the website I look after are for client's and generate enough traffic to make my own visits irrelevant.
It makes sense to enable that option if it's your own website though.
I might give it a try on my company's blog.
