Generally search engines index forums so posting in forums is way great way to get quality backlinks. Join forums with subject matter relevant to your site, add your URL (link) with anchor text of your choice to your forum signature, then contribute to the discussions. Be sure that you abide by the forum rules before you post anything...and do not post just for the backlinks. Forum administrators are not stupid. If your are truly contributing, your posts will not get deleted and you won't get banned. Submitting articles to directories can be more time-consuming then posting in forums. If you can write good articles on subjects related to your site, it's well worth the backlinks.

As somebody said here its a classic ways of gaining backlinks. It doesn't seems a smart way. I think google see the age of a site then google consider the backlinks. I can see many sites regardless of the niche, appearing in Google SERPs on first page are all sites with 1 yrs age and more. so, folks wait, PATIENCE is a virtue. put all your effort. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the positive comments...I really wanted to stress the "don't spam" in forums...I have a forum as well, it it's quite annoying...as if they think you're as dumb as they are.

This is really true. This is what we call White-hat. Sites like Facebook, Youtube, rapidshare does not need any link building. Links are build by others naturally.

PR doesn't give way to link juice I think. . . because google doesn't give more weght in PR to get good SERP.

Link swaping is useless now. Google sees right through it...natural "one-way" links are best.

It's not about "making it look natural" it should be natural. One linking to another because they want to, not because they were asked to.

Well, you got a point. but there are times google my think its not natural. They may think its a paid links but it not.

Well, anything is possible, but natural links are still the best...but many webmasters are often too impetient and make mistakes.
