I think you forgot about blog comments as they can be pretty good way to build backlinks... other than that, you are missing the point of social sites as you concentrate your thoughts only on building backlinks... they are still pretty good to build backlinks for you plus they can send pretty nice and producive traffic to your website (which is in my opinion more important than any PR or just backlink for SEO purspose)...
Plus, there is bunch of web 2.0 sites that are pretty good to use to build quality backlinks...
Plus, people are making big mistakes for linking to only their homepage which is pure example of bad SEO...

yah! BUt sometimes it look spam . . . and its hard to find do follow blogs.

Yahoo also has a "pay for review" option that is costly and does not mean you will get listed. I would suggest submitting the free listing first, then wait a few months to see if your site is listed before considering the paid option.

Article Directories and Forums
Generally search engines index forums so posting in forums is way great way to get quality backlinks. Join forums with subject matter relevant to your site, add your URL (link) with anchor text of your choice to your forum signature, then contribute to the discussions. Be sure that you abide by the forum rules before you post anything...and do not post just for the backlinks. Forum administrators are not stupid. If your are truly contributing, your posts will not get deleted and you won't get banned. Also, sometimes administrators do not allow links in posts, unless they are relevant ones, so it is best to leave your link in your signature.

Submitting articles to directories can be more time-consuming then posting in forums. If you can write good articles on subjects related to your site, it's well worth the backlinks.

Feed them with RSS
Offer free content through RSS feeds to interested sites. When the other site publishes your RSS feeds, you will not only get backlinks to your site, but potentially a lot of visitors. Publishers of the feeds in return get to add relevant content to their site. It's a "win-win situation".

Nice post. I agree with you totally. All of the strategies you have mentioned do work. Consistently building links over a period of time is the key to generating long term traffic.

those are common! any other new ways? I tried creating pages in some social networking site and review sites.

I have been working on building backlinks, by submitting to directories, writing and submitting a few articles, posting on forums with my signature, and i have done a few press releases, as well. I also paid to have my website SEO Optimized.
I am growing my backlinks, as I have only been at this for 3 months now, and I have approx. 60 back links and that keeps growing.
I have not gotten into any of the social bookmarking or social posting sites yet, but I think I will soon enough.

Nice post. Links from thematically-related blogs are almost just as valuable as links from thematically related sites. Homepage remark is also a good point.

I agree about DMOZ, I find it incredible that Google even cares about it considering that many editors are in fact getting paid off by webmasters to get entry into the directory.

Great post. Too bad when you search for "build backlinks" in google your going to have to sift for a bunch of junk before getting to anything good like an article like this.

I know it is a known fact that reciprocal links are NOT as effective as they used to be. This does not mean abandon ship as many other webmasters have done.

But, they are still effective enough to warrant the time and effort to create the relationship with other websites. One must be very picky about one's site selection and keeping the content related to your site.
