I bought a turnkey exit exchange a few months back.

I had listed my site in a bunch of directories and bought a lot of advertisements.

I noticed that for some of the keywords my site should show up on, My site has something like 10 times the number inbound links that the #1 ranking site has. (Yahoo)

Emediately started going through my files and realized there was no meta tags anywhere.

I put in a description, keywords, robots, etc.

I don't know if I put it in the right place. I don't know about PHP and where the tags are supposed to go.

Can someone help me out.

nope not in the right place ... put them between your <head></head>

looking at your source you have them right in the middle of a table .. not good.

update the error and we'll recheck to make sure you got it right

OK. I figured it out. This sounds pretty stupid now.

I couldn't figure out what file to edit. I though it was index.PHP but the file is supposed to edit was header.PHP. I couldn't find the file with the Meta tags in it and when I added the <head></tags> It would make an print error that said that the the head was already initiated in "I can't recall exactly what it said". To avoid the error I put the meta tags in without the <head></head> tags and further down the page. Anyway I got it fixed now. I'll likely get some visitors from Yahoo and Google now.

Thanks alot for the help.

its in the right position now but you need a ">" at the end of your meta description ... you're missing it and its eating up your:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">

... probably doesn't make a big difference but the most common convention is to keep each meta tag on ONE line... don't wrap the text to more than one line.

As for meta tags in general, modern SE's don't really use them. It doesn't hurt to have meta key/description tags but most SE's look at the content of your pages and your incoming links.

good luck!

I use alot of text link advertising, I have about ten times the number of indexed links for the sites I'm competing for position with on yahoo. And an equal PageRank to the sites on Google but my site isn't even on the SERPs. I think the tags had more than a little to do with it.

I will likely rewrite my home page and some of the inner page content.

I checked my rankings for Pop under exchange and I'm ranked 189th. That's good news.

Anybody have Ideas on where to get links?
