Well, we keep hearing this legend about how if you get too many links too fast, Google will think it's something black hat going on. So, I sold my house and car, and bought 10,000 links for each of my competitors. Obviously, all of them should be banned, I should be the only one left, and everybody on the web will have to buy from me. I'll be so rich, I can buy my house and car back, plus a palace!

The only thing that happened, is now all my competitors out rank me. Guess common sense was right after all.

and once i had also heard that .. we can complaint abt selling links on sites ... to google by a simple form. ... by that way also we can get our competitors out of the race

I had this experience before that my website gained too many links in a span of 2 days i think, and the result my ranking fall from number 3 to number 11.

really!? how many exactly does the links are, and are those links relevant to your site?

I have read that link building for a new site should start of slowly and increase over time to make it look natural to the search engine to avoid being penalized.

I think you'd have a better chance firing a bullet in the air, and hoping that the wind blows it in the direction of your competitors.

It makes sense that you would get a penalty but like others I havent really seen evidence.
