But that has nothing to do with it "being a home page".
For your home page to appear for a search for another pages title, it probably indicates that there is a link on the "home" page to the inner page, or in the case of a "blog" part of the article/post will be there. People are perfectly capable of clicking this link and getting where you think they should be.
The behaviour you note is only a temporary phenomena, as soon as some links to the inner pages have been found, analysed and weighted it will take up it's natural position.
It is simply because the "home" page has more intrinsic "weight" for any phrase that appears on it, and the new inner page only has the newly conferred reduced "weight" from the "home" page. BUT because both pages match the search pattern exactly, they are displayed in order of "importance".
