What is first place at google worth to you?
Have you ever put any thought in to this question?

1st place at Google.com would be worth to someone that has the potential to make a lot of money, than it would be worth to someone that could not earn very much money from the exposure.

If you had to place a value on being 1st place at google for your selected keyword, how much would it be worth to you?

Of course there are quite a few other phrases that do actually bring visitors and enquiries, and they don't appear in any "rankings check"
Though I must admit haven't spent any time at all updating (not a single word has changed on it) or promoting the site in almost 18 months now, given that the UK nightclub market is somewhat in the doldrums after the smoking ban and now the "credit crunch".

Being No 1 in the SERPs doesn't mean untold riches at all, what it usually means is lots and lots of time wasting enquiries from numpties who ask inane questions OR even more stupidly send,

Why are people so obsessed with money?

I think the 1st place "syndrome" is a complete fallacy. I don't know about anyone else but I rarely find what I'm looking for on a position 1 search result. More often than not I usually find what I'm after lower down page 1, page 2 or fairly often page 3.

Probably because they know there will be some gullible fool willing to part with their money for a useless "result"

really?
I agree that being on 1st position doesn't mean much. However, I rarely go on page 2 and never on page 3. If I can't find what I am looking for on page 2, I try a different search.

But yeah, 1st position, means nothing. It can be first AND second. there will probably never be any traffic from this search.

I am ranked first, its because i used a unique url/company name, and that is all it takes.

Heck, you can be first and pay nothing, all you need is free hosting (ex. 110mb.com) and a free domain (freedomain.co.nr).

So, I would pay nothing to get a 1st place spot, that and being in the top 10 will grant great traffic.

First place in Google? Well, first I personally don't think that makes any sense because you are not 1st if you don't have a website for every topic first of all.

and second...Even if you made a website for every topic, then google could just decide to close their site or have someone else buy their site and change the structure all around so it wouldn't matter either way you look at it to fight for first prize...Just work hard, and if it's meant to be, it's meant to be and you will see your site their one day.

Good luck in the meantime

Yep. I agree with Brian07002. Unless you corner the market on every single topic out there, there's not much chance of getting 1st for all time. As long as what I do pays the bills and puts some extra cash in my pocket, I'm good to go.

I wouldn't pay for a first page spot on Google. I'm fine with a second page or third page spot. If the market you are in is hot, a second or third page spot will still get you a great amount of traffic.

Just a rant, but only Google can be (completely) first in Google.

$1000 if you can put me on Google's homepage. If you keep it there for 5 years, I will also throw in two cows, one that gives milk and one that lays eggs. If you can't, then you give me two cows, one that flies and another that handles customer service calls.

I think that being in positions 3-5 would be better than at NO.1 Because these days people to tend to shop around to see what they can find.

Why would I pay for first place in Google if I can get my site to at least top 5 for FREE? That's why there's SEO, right? I guess some people aren't willing to do hard work...

Why pay if you can do it for free? It's pointless to pay for 1st place ranking in Google. Ranking fluctuation happens. You're #1 today; the next day, someone will outrank you.

It depends on your keyword.

But i think i would pay to get ranked for some keywords for example "make money online" even in the first five .........it is surely worth to pay for some keywords.
