hello all, my site is up for nearly three months, and rank on one keyword jumped from #250 to 60, then about one month ago, the rank disappeared. i think it might be due to the following reasons:
1. i had a broken back link from a french site to one of my page which i asked the webmaster to make some changes without any reply received yet. that page was indexed quite normally by google and now google indexed that page again in that broken link made by the french site. i discovered this error in google webmaster tools and it said a page not find error occured.
2. most backlinks has that keyword name in the links. my keyword is bluetooth hack and it appear in most backlinks.
3. i made about 20 backlinks on that keyword the day before the rank disappeared and 30 back links to my site each day for three consecutive days.

about a week ago i checked google webmaster and that 404 error was still there and unfortunately another broken backlink to another page occured. but the rank on another key word is in the first page!

today i find the broken backlink to my bluetooth hack page disappear from google webmaster but the rank is not back yet. and that well ranked keyword disappears as well.

i am not worried, but i want to know what caused it to happen and avoid it in the future. so help me please!

Lol What you don't know won't hurt ya.

Sure that's one way of looking at it. Another is that it is a fact of life with search engines and you can't change it so why worry about it.

If conversions/sales don't get adversely affected why does it matter?

the traffic has not been affected, just that we all want to get more free traffic from search engines, so we are concerned about the rank, and that's why we have been learning seo all the time, right?

If you actually read and analysed what you said there, you might realise what I am talking about.
ranking doesn't affect the traffic, but we want more traffic so we bother about the ranking. Anybody else see the completely useless circular logic there?

traffic HASN'T been affected, so OBVIOUSLY the "ranking" of this particular word is of ABSOLUTELY NO USE WHATSOEVER!

READ your site logs, find words and phrases the DO bring traffic and work on those.

I believe that Google at times play "Cat n Mouse" game with us. If, after seeing the drop in ranking, you make any hurried changes to your site, Google will catch you and move your site to the dustbin list. Even if you lose any rank for some time, don't make any changes to your site as far as the keyword targeting is concerned. Just visit all the famous SEO forums and see if there is any talk about "Google Algorithm change" or something to that effect. If there is, then you will have to experiment a bit on it with your new sites rather than old and established sites which make you money.

What a load of absolute crap!

Frankly Google does not care about your website, they are a BUSINESS. ALL they want is to sell there product (There World Class Search Engine) and gain money (by placing ads next to the organic search results).

Face it, you can have an awesome website that generates traffic by physical word of mouth. You DO NOT NEED Google or ANY search engine, if your website is really that good then people will visit.

Ever searched for a news story that is exclusively on CNN? No.

that is natural. . . all of us experience that. maybe you should just continue your SEO and observe google's behavior. You'll surely come up of a solution.

Get more links with that keyword in it

Rank checking is okay to do through google webmaster tools, however just keep getting more links and it should return, also try using keyword variations as well..
